Lisa Nisbett, who took over the Isle of Skye Lighting Company in February 2017, has plenty of action planned for the Kyleakin-based shop.

Part of that action involves a brand new consultation service.  Says New Zealand born Lisa: "We won't just be a lighting store where customers come to us.  I have begun offering a free consulting service for anyone building a new home or renovating their existing property.  I will come to you so I can get an understanding of what you would like to achieve, and together we can create a lighting plan for your home.  I am happy to help commercial property owners too."

Along with the new management, the shop has a brand new name and identity: Handley & Co.  Lisa's dream was to supply customers with homeware, gifts, scented candles, cushions, throws and upcycled furniture.

Lisa admits taking on the Lighting Company has been a learning curve for her – but something about which she has become increasingly enthusiastic.  "I've have been researching all aspects of lighting so I can be knowledgeable and helpful to my customers," she says.  "This knowledge will make the process of selecting or updating lights easier for people.  I hope that in the future I will be able to offer the perfect range for each customer's unique set of needs and wants."

The selection of lights in stock range from quirky helicopter-shaped pendant lights to beautiful touch lamps in the shape of flowers, practical reading lamps, spotlights and outdoor lanterns.  Says Lisa: "If someone wants a very specific light or bulb that we may not stock, I am more than happy to find it!"

Although the shop is compact, Lisa plans to utilise the space as much as possible.  "Because I get a lot of people in asking for lamp and pendant shades,
I have started adding a range of them into the ceiling space." The result is a warm, welcoming environment that enables visitors to imagine how each item could look when installed in their home.

Lisa also intends to change how her outdoor lights are showcased.  "I will be creating a wall of green foliage to make the setting for our lanterns more realistic.”

She adds: "Handley & Co. is open from April to September on Mondays through to Fridays, from 9:30am to 5pm.  I am also open late on Thursdays until 7pm and Saturdays from 10am to 4pm."  Why not pop in and receive a glowing welcome from Lisa and her team?
