Top award boost for Bùth Bharraigh

Fresh from its most successful summer so far, the community produce shop Bùth Bharraigh has won a top award from the Scottish Rural Parliament as a Rural Innovator.

And the shop’s representatives will be among the winners attending the Scottish Rural Parliament 2016 in Brechin from Thursday to Saturday, 6-8 October.

And the shop is in line for two other major awards – the UK Rural Business Awards and the Highlands & Islands Food & Drink Awards.

There are only hours left to put in your vote to support community shop Bùth Bharraigh Ltd in Castlebay as one of four projects who have been nominated for a Rural Innovators Award under the Business category.

Spokesperson Sarah MacLean said: “We are delighted to be nominated and it is a real testament to all the hard work from volunteers, producers and staff.”

The Rural Innovator Awards are run by Scottish Rural Action and seek to recognise and showcase some of the most innovative and effective ways in which rural challenges can be addressed.

Gaelic supergroup 'Dàimh' to open Royal National Mod

Am Mòd Nàiseanta Rìoghail (The Royal National Mòd) kicks off its return to the Western Isles with a sensational opening ceremony featuring headline performances by Dàimh and the Mischa Macpherson Trio.  

Taking place in Stornoway for the first time since 2011, Scotland’s biggest Gaelic Cultural Festival will see a nine-day spectacular of Gaelic music, arts and sport take place from Friday 14th – Saturday 22nd October.
